Sacred Stone Center in Middletown, Rhode Island specializes in teaching the art of heated and cooled sea stone body work. This philosophy, according to Sacred Stone, is the backbone of Ayurveda, translated as "the science of life." It is an ancient healing system commonly used in India and is based on restoring the balance of the five main elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether. The Sacred Stone Center teaches students how to merge the eastern Ayurveda philosophy with western medicine.
Karyn Chabot, the founder of Sacred Stone Center, has a degree in alternative health and an advanced degree from the Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico. A certified massage therapist, she began an extensive study of the ancient Ayurveda theory and is now a master crystologist and Reiki practitioner. Over the years she has developed a theory of integrating heated stone massage with Ayurveda and is now part of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.
To share her knowledge, and help others achieve certification in the body work field, Chabot has created five comprehensive instructional DVDs on the art of stone healing and Ayurvedic spa therapies. She's created a body of illustrated manuals and correspondence courses for massage therapists. In 2004, she graduated and certified her first Sacred Stone Therapy instructor and is anxious to train many more students in the coming years.
