At Richmond Community College, a North Carolina-based school, students can expect to find educational opportunities that accommodate their lifestyle. The school offers transfer and vocational programs of study during the day, evening, or online. Richmond Community College also offers a number of non-degree personal enrichment courses for students. All courses are available at low-cost. Tuition for 2007 costs just $40 per credit hour for in-state students, a price less than one-third of the cost per credit hour at the average four-year institution. For students who'd like to earn a paycheck while they study, Richmond Community College's Cooperative Education program provides students with full and part-time paid positions in their field of choice during their college tenure. Students may work in their co-op positions for up to two semesters and upon graduation will leave campus with a diploma as well as real world experience and industry contacts. Richmond Community College also operates an extensive apprenticeship program available to both high school students and adult learners. Through the apprenticeship program, students may receive up to three college credits for their work.
In addition to traditional community college academic fare, Richmond Community College also offers an extensive continuing education program as well as basic skills courses including GED preparation classes, English as a Second Language courses, and family literacy workshops for students not yet ready to enter college. The school also provides crucial workforce development workshops for area employees. These courses focus on improving skills in Reading, Math and Applied Technology that will qualify a student for possible employment with local industries.
The Condor Guided Studies Center provides free tutoring and academic advising to all Richmond Community College enrollees. Additional support services include financial aid counseling, personal counseling, job search support, disability services, and college success workshops that cover topics like time management and study skills.
