When Maria College first opened its doors in 1958, there were only 52 students in attendance. Over the years, the New York community college has grown to offer a number of certificate and associate degree programs. Although Maria College was originally created as a Sister Formation and liberal arts school, it now has male population that comprises 20 percent of the students enrolled.
Today students on this New York community college have the option of either an associate in science, associate in applied science, or associate in arts degree. In addition to regular classes, Maria College also offers a Weekend College program that allows students to take only weekend classes yet still receive an associate degree in two years.
Some individual programs within this New York community college have been approved by outside institutions. For example, Associate Degree Nursing program has been accredited by the National League Nursing Accreditation Commission, and the Occupational Therapy Assistant program has been approved by Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

At Maria College's not-for-profit Campus School, students majoring in Early Childhood Education have the opportunity to test out their teaching skills and observe an authentic school environment. Community members may enroll children in pre-K or kindergarten programs at the school.
