Madison Area Technical College is a professional technical school located in Madison, Wisconsin. Madison Area Technical College is one of the largest schools in the Wisconsin Technical College System, serving over 40,000 students each year. The other colleges in the system include: Blackhawk; Chippewa Valley; Fox Valley; Gateway; Lakeshore; Mid-State; Milwaukee Area: Moraine Park; Nicolet Area; Northcentral; Northeast Wisconsin; Southwest Wisconsin; Waukesha County; Western; and Wisconsin Indiahead. Students can take advantage of online learning in any one of the system's schools through an e-learning program.
Madison Area Technical College was founded in 1912 and has ten campuses throughout the Madison area, offering more than 100 programs of study. Students may choose to enroll in certificate, diploma or associate degree programs. Madison Area Technical College is one of the only technical colleges in the state to offer a comprehensive liberal arts program that will prepare students to transfer to a four-year institution. Madison Area Technical College is the single largest feeder school into the University of Wisconsin - Madison and into the University of Wisconsin system. Madison Area Technical College regional campuses are located in the communities of Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown. In addition, the college offers instruction in other locations throughout its district.
Prospective students wishing to enroll in Madison Area Technical College must have a high school diploma or GED for all of the associate degree programs and most of the certificate and diploma programs; and should either have SAT or ACT scores, or take the COMPASS exam. Students who have attended other colleges or universities must also provide a transcript from those schools. Most students who attend Madison Area Technical College are commuter students and there is no on-campus housing available on either campus. Staff at Long Beach City College might be able to provide students with suggested affordable housing around the campuses.
