J.F. Drake State Technical College is a professional technical school located in Alabama. The school services the following counties in Alabama: Madison, Jackson and Northern Morgan; as well as offering instate tuition to residents in the following counties in Tennessee: Bedford, Franklin, Giles, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marion, Marshall and Moore.
J.F. Drake State Technical College is a part of the Alabama Community College System. The other colleges in the system include: Alabama Southern Community College; Bevill State Community College; Bishop State Community College; John C. Calhoun Community College; Central Alabama Community College; Chattahoochee Community College; Enterprise Ozark Community College; Jefferson Davis Community College; James H. Wallace Community College; Marion Military Institute; Northeast Alabama Community College; Northwest-Shoals Community College; Shelton State Community College; Snead State Community College; Southern Union State Community College; George C. Wallace Community College; Wallace State Community College; George Corley Wallace State Community College; H. Council Trenholm State Technical College; J.F. Ingram State Technical College and Reid State Technical College. The system also has two industrial training schools: Alabama Industrial Development Training Institute and Alabama Technology Network. Athens State University is the upper-level school in the system.
J.F. Drake State Technical College offers the following programs as certificate, diploma or Associate of Applied Technology degree: accounting technology; automotive mechanics technology; barbering technology; cosmetology technology; culinary arts/hospitality services; engineering graphics technology; industrial electrical technology; industrial electronics technology; industrial systems technology; information and communication technology; heating and air conditioning technology; machine tool technology; nursing assistant; office systems technology; practical nursing technology; and welding technology.
There are various admissions requirements for programs at the school. In general, prospective students wishing to enroll at J.F. Drake State Technical College, must have a high school diploma or GED for all of the associate degree programs and most of the certificate and diploma programs; must complete a Compass exam, or have SAT or ACT exam scores. If they do not have those, they may be required to take the Compass exam. Students who have attended other colleges or universities must also provide a transcript from those schools.
