The Jewelry Arts Institute, around for over 20 years, is the first school committed to researching, preserving and teaching jewelry making techniques of the Classical period. Students of all levels enroll in semester classes and/or intensive workshops. Techniques taught include Byzantine enameling, classical chain making, classical settings, granulation in silver and gold lapidary, and other related procedures.
Students of the Jewelry Arts Institute either pursue a career in jewelry design or recreate jewels of antiquity as a hobby. The instructors are all master goldsmiths who are former students. In addition to teaching they all design and produce jewelry for various galleries. All projects are taught by one-on-one demonstration. The student to teacher ratio is six to one.
Classes are held throughout the year. Each quarter consists of nine classes, which meet once a week for three hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
