Darton College is a two-year college located in Albany, Georgia. Darton College is a school that belongs to the university system of Georgia. Located on a 180-acre campus in Albany, Darton College's campus includes includes a 470-seat theater, state-of-the-art library, fitness center, computer labs, and sports facilities such as tennis and racquetball courts, an indoor swimming pool, a nature trail and ball fields. The school was founded in 1962 as Albany Junior College. The college is located on the Flint River, and in 1987, the name of the school was changed to Darton College. "Darton" is an old English word that means "town by the water."
Darton College offers 73 associate degree and professional degree programs including: accounting; business administration; criminal justice; economics; education; history; homeland security; human services; information technology; logistics and supply chain management; management; office administration; paralegal; political science; psychology; social work; sociology; art; dance; English; foreign language; general studies; journalism; theater; music; and speech communication.
The allied health programs provide many of the health professionals working in southwest Georgia, including over 30 percent of all registered nurses working in hospitals in the region. The nursing program at Darton College is approved by the Georgia State Board of Nursing and students who graduate from the program are eligible to take the state exam for licensure. The Nursing Program is also accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
Prospective students wishing to apply to Darton College must have a high school diploma or GED and provide transcripts to the college. Students who attended another college must also provide a transcript from all other colleges and universities. If students do not have an ACT or SAT score, they most likely will need to take a skills test before being admitted to the college. There is no on-campus housing at County College of Morris, but the college can help students locate affordable student housing off campus.
