D'Arcy Lane Institute, School of Equine Massage Therapy has the only registered program in equine massage therapy and is the most intensive program to date. The program is designed to help students gain the expertise in rehabilitating equine athletes and assist owners in maximizing their horses potential. The program has been designed with the help of veterinarians, registered massage therapists, Canadian Equestrian Federation, certified coaches, competitive riders, and horse owners.
D'Arcy Lane Institute's equine massage therapy program consists of 2,200 hours in courses on equine anatomy, equine physiology, equine pathology, confirmation and kinesiology, equine massage theory and techniques, equine massage treatments, hydrotherapy, equine behavior, equine management, terminology, professionalism and ethics, business management, and research.
The 285-hour equine anatomy course is designed to give students thorough knowledge of the functions of the skeletal, muscular, circulatory, nervous, visceral and integumentary systems. The 285-hour equine physiology course provides students with a general understanding of the normal functions of the equine body systems. The 290 hours of equine pathology introduces students to common equine pathology. The 130-hour kinesiology course includes gait and movement assessment. The 300-hours of equine massage theory and techniques teach students theories of therapeutic equine massage and how to apply those techniques. The 325 hours of equine massage treatments integrate the theoretical studies of sciences, case history, assessments, hydrotherapy, remedial exercise therapy, and practical massage studies to develop an effective treatment approach.
The 55 hours of hydrotherapy help students learn the principles of hot and cold and injuries. The 90-hour equine behavior course teaches students normal and abnormal equine behaviors and increases their equine communication skills. The 225-hour equine management courses provide students a study of various horse breeds, equine disciplines, nutrition, equine care and safety management. The 35 hours of terminology give students an understanding of terminology used in the sciences. Students learn professionalism and ethics in a 30-hour course. The 25-hour business management course provides students with the necessary skills to operate a small business. The 25 hours in the research component teach students the skills needed to evaluate the validity of articles and research papers.
