Roanoke, Va. 24016
Daniel's Institute of Massage and The Healing Arts was created by Jade Daniels and established in 1996, in response to the demand for professional massage therapists. Jade Daniels and her fellow massage therapists have created a school where instruction is based on personal attention to each student's dream. The institute has been operating for more than 10 years and its graduates are employed in the field or have come back to teach the art of massage therapy.
Daniel's Institute of Massage and The Healing Arts massage therapy program requires 530 hours of study in the areas of anatomy and physiology, pathology, massage theory and practice, massage clinic, adjunct modalities, hydrotherapy, massage business practices, first aid and CPR certification, and AIDS/HIV.
In the anatomy and physiology course, students learn the structure of the human body including the skeletal system while the pathology course teaches medical terminology, sign and symptoms, indications and contraindications, and pharmacology. The massage therapy and practice course explores the history of massage as well as theoretical and practical aspects of various massages. In massage clinic, students give massages to clients under faculty supervision. Adjunct modalities are individual classes that provide general study and applied hands-on techniques such as polarity, craniosacral, rolfing, chair massage, aromatherapy, spa, yoga, T'ai Ji, and sports massage. Hydrotherapy teaches the history, theory, and practice of incorporating water into massage. The massage business practices course teaches students the aspects of massage business including office practices, fees, insurance billing, record keeping and promotion. First aid and CPR certification and training is provided by the National Safety Counsel. The AIDS/HIV course teaches students the pathogenesis and epidemiology of the disease, exposure, prevention, current treatment and behavioral attitudes surrounding the illness.
