Cornish College of the Arts was founded by Nellie Cornish almost 100 years ago. She wanted to educate the artist by exposing them to all arts. Cornish College is one of only three private, nonprofit performing and visual arts institutions in the United States. The college blends visual and performing arts with a core curriculum of humanities and sciences.
Cornish College of the Arts awards Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees in the study areas of art, dance, design, music, performance production, and theater. Other programs at Cornish College of the Arts include summer programs such as summer dance, art and design teen programs, music program, and adult credit courses.

Financial assistance is available through federal, state, work study, and scholarships.
Cornish College of the Arts students can participate in a variety of student interest groups including AIGA Student Group, Student Union, CIAO- Contact Improvisation Artists' Organization, Day of the Dead, Ebony and Ivory, Knitter's Guild, Pixel Shift, Sports Club and Sea Monstre.
The Cornish Student Leadership Council represents the student body by providing a forum for discussion on issues regarding student's quality of life, acts as liaison to the administration, faculty and staff, provides programs for the student body, and disburses funds to student interest groups.
Cornish's faculty are working professional artists, who are involved in the Seattle Arts community. Faculty, students, and staff are all involved in visual and performing arts.
