College of the Desert is a comprehensive, California two-year public college that provides lower division academic, vocational, and basic skills education. COD is a successful college because the faculty, staff, and administration make decisions based on a systematic assessment of the needs of the community as well as the application of the College's values.

College of the Desert students attend the College for a variety of reasons. Some COD students may expect to transfer, complete degrees and certificates, prepare for the workforce, or acquire a general education that enables them to be well-rounded, productive citizens. In order to help students succeed, the College of the Desert assesses student learning needs, establishes academic and vocational courses and programs appropriate to those needs, determines the effectiveness of its courses and programs, and implements changes to improve student learning. Student success is the top priority for the community at the College of the Desert.

The faculty members at College of the Desert strive to make excellence in teaching their highest priority and continually aim to improve scholarly and professional competence. The expert COD faculty maintains personal and academic integrity and accepts the role of intellectual guide and facilitator with pride.
