As a higher learning institution of excellence, this college in Puerto Rico is dedicated to training students pursuing a Master of Arts and a Doctorate of Philosophy degree. Through the Master of Arts program, students can study three different concentrations: Puerto Rican and Caribbean Studies, History of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico and Caribbean Studies. Regardless of a student's focus, the degree program at Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe is centered on academic courses in the context of Puerto Rican culture, history and sociology. Courses are also designed for educators who teach in heavily populated Puerto Rican areas in the United States. The Doctorate of Philosophy is offered in the same three concentrations.

This college in Puerto Rico dates back more than a century. It was founded in the mid-1850s and has served as a center for public education since, particularly for sciences. The center changed course and became a prominent force in the community and in the higher education community in 1968, when four prestigious leaders in education and philosophy joined the college and helped shape the curriculum. The Centre for Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean has a strong West Indies, Caribbean and Puerto Rican heritage. It is a cultural melting pot of Latin American heritages, but is a warm and welcoming community to everyone wishing to study at their institution.

At Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe, students are not only enriched in the classroom but outside it as well. Through cultural activities, exchange and study abroad programs, symposiums, lectures and seminars, students are actively engaged in the college experience. The campus is also home to the Puerto Rican Cultural Institute, hosting events including concerts, exhibitions and conferences. The campus is also home to the Museum of the Americas, the Puerto Rican Indian Museum, and several art galleries.
