Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions is a professional medical college located in Lewiston, Maine, that is a part of the Central Maine Medical Center. Founded in 1891 as Central Maine General Hospital Training School, the institution was a diploma only granting entity until 1977, a year after the name was changed. In 2001, the school moved to its' present location, a state-of-the-art facility located on Middle Street.
Upon completion of coursework and residency, students at the Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions earn an associate degree in the Applied Science of Nursing. Students must complete and receive at least a "C" in the following courses prior to graduation: fundamentals in nursing (8 credits); nursing care across the lifespan I, II, and III (a total of 31 credits); pharmacy fundamentals (3 credits); anatomy and physiology I and II (a total of 8 credits); microbiology (4 credits); introduction to psychology (3 credits); developmental psychology (3 credits); college writing 101 (3 credits); introduction to literature (3 credits) and an elective (3 credits). Additionally, students must earn the passing score on the RN Assessment Achievement Exam.
Prospective students wishing to enroll at Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions must: have a high school diploma or a GED and be able to provide transcripts to the school; complete the application form; have achieved at least a C grade in high school biology and certain scores on the SAT test; complete a nursing entrance exam and go through an interview process at the school. There is on-campus student housing available at Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions. Additionally, students have access to a full services health library on campus, as well as tutoring assistance, if needed.
