Founded in 1963, Carteret Community College is one of 59 schools that make up the North Carolina community college system. Its mission is to be a leader in improving the quality of life for all citizens of Carteret County and Eastern North Carolina through high-quality education, training, enrichment and support.
Located in Morehead City, North Carolina, the college lies on the shores of the Bogue Sound, which is part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. At its start, Carteret Community College offered a limited number of vocational technical courses, such as marine diesel and small engine repair. Today, the North Carolina college offers a variety of educational, technical and vocational programs, including aquaculture, culinary technology, interior design and therapeutic massage. Students have over 100 courses to choose from.
Carteret Community College's college transfer curriculum is one of its most popular, as it enables students to obtain an associate degrees in either the arts or sciences and transfer to a four-year college or university. Student services also are important on campus. The North Carolina college offers financial aid and scholarship assistance, a student newspaper and numerous clubs and activities to join.
