Chicago's Cannella School of Hair Design has been preparing students for jobs in the cosmetology field for more than a quarter of a century. Students who are interested in pursuing a career in this fast-growing field will receive training from skilled instructors in all the latest cosmetology techniques. With a progressive and innovative educational program, Cannella School of Hair Design prepares students to work in hair salons, spas and other locations.

Cannella School of Hair Design's cosmetology training course can be completed in about 1,500 hours. Students can opt for a full-time and part-time course schedule, with classes held in both the day and evening, at one of Cannella School of Hair Design's seven locations throughout Chicago and its suburbs (including Elgin, Villa Park and Blue Island). In order to provide the greatest possible access to a cosmetology education, classes at Cannella School of Hair Design are taught in both English and Spanish, and financial aid is available to qualified students.

Students begin their cosmetology training at Cannella School of Hair Design with 150 hours of classroom instruction that covers basic subjects such as shampoo, the use of chemicals, types of hair, ethics, anatomy and physiology, sanitation, skin diseases and hygiene. The following 500 hours of instruction cover practical chemical applications and hair treatment, and students learn about permanent waving, hair coloring and bleaching, hair relaxing and scalp conditioning. Cannella students also complete 475 hours of hair styling instruction including cutting, thinning, shaping, curling and trimming. These two sections of the course combine classroom learning with hands-on practice. In addition, students at Cannella's School of Hair Design spend 200 hours learning about shop management and interpersonal relations including such topics as labor law, emergency first aid, bookkeeping, marketing and merchandising, business math, client relations and worker's compensation. Training in esthetics and nail technology is also provided. Cannella School of Hair Design also offers a teacher training course for licensed cosmetologists who wish to become instructors. This 1,000-hour program at Cannella includes 500 hours of post-graduate training, as well as instruction in educational psychology and teaching methods.
