Calhoun Community College believes it exemplifies the mission of a two-year college, most notably by its commitment to excellence in teaching and service. The Alabama college, located in Decatur, is the largest of the two-year institutions that make up the Alabama College System, which includes 21 other Alabama Colleges spread out across the state.
Calhoun Community College is an open-admission, community-based and state-supported coed community college. Its aim is to prepare students for higher learning or direct entry into the job force through two-year transfer and certificate programs. Calhoun serves just over 9,000 students by offering 49 associate degree programs and 52 career/certificate programs, including nursing, social science and technologies.
In addition to Decatur, the Alabama college is spread across several other campuses: Huntsville/Cummings Research Park site; Redstone Arsenal, a local military installation; and the Limestone Correctional Facility. Students can choose to attend classes traditionally on campus or online, through one of Calhoun Community College's distance learning programs. Calhoun Community College also provides training and education for area businesses and industries through its Business and Industry Services division, which offers customized training programs. Companies such as Adtran, Boeing, Delphi/Saginaw and the Tennessee Valley Authority have all taken part.
