When Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) began in 1964, it was a small community college that focused on preparing individuals for careers in business. Since then it has grown into an esteemed member of The City University of New York (CUNY). In accordance with CUNY's mission, this community college now provides general, liberal arts, career education, and continuing education programs that aim to provide educational opportunities to the diverse urban population.

Thanks to its many programs and courses, Borough of Manhattan Community College is able to offer students the associate in arts degree, the associate in applied science degree, and the associate in science degree. These degrees are available in fields of study such as nursing, video arts and technology, business administration, computer science, and theatre. Students enrolled in the school's Center for Continuing Education and Workface Development may receive career training for job industries like finance, technology, health care, real estate, and project management.

This New York college also operates and online instruction center that offers online courses in subjects such as accounting, the entertainment industry, starting your own business, law, and digital photography and video. Instructors for these courses are experts in their fields, and many are nationally known authors.
