Blue Mountain College is a private, coeducational liberal arts college supported by the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Founded as a women's college in 1873, this Mississippi Baptist college began offering church-related vocational programs to male students in 1956 and became fully coeducational in 2005. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the academic program at Blue Mountain College is focused on character development, creative thinking, and leadership skills.

Students at Blue Mountain College can earn a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Science in Education in one of seven academic departments: Biblical and Associated Studies; Business; Education; Fine Arts and Speech; Language and Literature; Mathematics and Natural Science; and Social and Behavioral Sciences. At the graduate level, Blue Mountain College offers a Master of Education degree in Elementary Education.

Blue Mountain College competes for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in basketball and cross country. Students can also participate in a variety of honor societies, academic groups, publications, and a Student Body Association.
