Bismarck State College is a comprehensive community college providing student-centered learning in transfer courses, technical programs, online classes and programs, corporate and continuing education, and workforce training. Bismarck State College is one of the state's leaders in online education, with several programs and more than 150 courses offered online. Distance learning is also provided through the N.D. Interactive Video Network and Interactive Television.
Bismarck State College provides the first two years of education toward a bachelor's degree in nearly any field. Students earn an associate in arts or an associate in science degree. Students can choose from more than 35 technical programs that prepare them for entry-level placement in specific careers. Completion leads to a program certificate, program diploma or associate in applied science degree. Nearly 20 bachelor's degree and several graduate programs are offered on campus in cooperation with other North Dakota University System institutions.
Bismarck State College, an innovative community college, offers high quality education, workforce training, and enrichment programs reaching local and global communities. Bismarck State College provides workforce training for business and industry in the southwest quadrant of North Dakota. CCE also provides professional development and personal enrichment courses, and conference coordination services.

- Bismarck State College was a bold, Depression-era experiment. As North Dakota's first two-year city college, this college of the North Dakota University System became an example for others and over the years has grown at a pace most likely unforeseen by its early promoters.
- Bismarck State College's first students started classes on Sept. 4,1939, in Bismarck High School. There were 104 full- and part-time students and 12 instructors.
- Bismarck State College has seen a few different campus locations. The current location first held classes in the fall of 1961.
