Big Bend Community College began operations in 1961, but it wasn't until 1966 that the college, located in Washington State, acquired 159 acres of land on the former Larson Air Force Base, which became the permanent college campus for all programs in 1975.

Big Bend Community College is one of the smallest community colleges in Washington State, yet it serves one of the largest rural districts of 4,600 square miles, the Washington college says. Serving Adams and Grant Counties, as well as the Odessa consolidated School District in Lincoln County, Big Bend Community College offers degree and certificate programs that prepare students to enter a four-year college or university or the workforce. Program offerings include aviation maintenance technology, nursing and aircraft rescue fire fighting. Courses can be taken traditionally at the brick-and-mortar institution or online.

The Washington college offers students such services as counseling, childcare, dining and lab hours. Student clubs include Phi Theta Kappa, American Welding Club and Swing Dance.
