Founded in 1839, Albany Medical Center is an academic health sciences center that aims for excellence in medical education, biomedical research and patient care. The Center includes Albany Medical College, one of the nation's oldest private medical schools, a teaching hospital, and a fundraising organization.

The M.D. program at Albany Medical Center emphasizes wellness, prevention, and patient education. In addition, Albany Medical Center offers graduate degree programs at the master's and doctoral level in Cardiovascular Sciences, Cell Biology and Cancer Research, Immunology and Microbial Disease, Neuropharmacology and Neuroscience, Bioethics, Physician Assistant Studies, and Nurse Anesthesiology.

Students can also enroll in undergraduate summer research programs to learn about career opportunities in the biomedical sciences. Albany Medical Center also offers more than 30 residency and fellowship programs, and is accredited to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
