Agnes Scott College

141 East College Avenue
Decatur, GA 30030

Founded in 1889, Agnes Scott College was Georgia's first institution of higher education to receive regional accreditation. The school was named in honor of a Scottish-Irish immigrant, Agnes Irvine Scott, who was a pillar of integrity and intellectual curiosity. Predicated on the morals of one woman, this institution has ranked among the top ten percent - since the 1920s - of American colleges whose graduates complete Ph.D. degrees.

Establishing a women-only community yields Agnes Scott College the ability to show independence in its true light: empowerment. The Women's College Coalition offers this statistic: graduates of single-sex institutions tend to hold higher positions in careers, obtain a larger percentage of advanced degrees, and are generally happier than women who attended coeducational institutes. Graduates of women's colleges are typically political leaders, scientists, or in some way inspire the education of the profession.

Embracing a gender-specific student body does not, however, suggest the narrow-mindedness that such an institution might elicit. Agnes Scott's student body represents women of the world, and offers opportunity to both women and men seeking a master of arts in teaching. Founded during the Presbyterian educational movement, Agnes Scott College maintains its relationship with the Presbyterian Church.

If yours is a pursuit of athletic scholarship, Agnes Scott College should be first on your list. Known as Scotties, Agnes Scott College athletes span seven varsity teams all playing at NCAA Division III level. Teamwork and discipline are tools found both on and off the playing field, and are cornerstones of Agnes Scott's academics. With a state-of-the-art facility and the technology and materials therein, a future at Agnes Scott is a future ensuring success.

Agnes Scott College prides itself on its Honor System, a student self-government that promotes and encourages academic and moral leadership since 1906. The Honor System's infrastructure consists of inter-student support, maturity and integrity, strengthening and bettering the community and every one of its members. From these values, Agnes Scott College gives the world scholars, leaders, and exemplary citizens.
