Founded in 1935, Armstrong Atlantic State University is a public, coeducational university and part of the University System of Georgia. Students can pursue a liberal education through the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Health Professions, School of Computing, and the School of Graduate Studies. AASU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Students at Armstrong Atlantic State University can choose from more than 35 undergraduate programs in the arts, social sciences, and health sciences, along with more than 10 pre-professional programs including business, law, and medicine. Armstrong Atlantic State University also offers more than 15 programs at the graduate level, including a doctoral degree in physical therapy offered in conjunction with Medical College of Georgia. In addition, a wide selection of courses for professional development is offered through the Department of Professional and Continuing Education.

Armstrong Atlantic State University is an NCAA Division II school with four men's teams and six women's teams competing at the varsity level. Students can also participate in a more than 30 campus clubs including student government, Greek life, intramural sports, religious groups, and professional organizations.
