Animal Therapy Systems & Academy

Animal Therapy Systems & Academy
PO. Box 4
Palo Cedro, CA

Animal Therapy Systems & Academy provides a variety of services, training, and certifications for animal therapy mainly involving training in use of animal acuscope instruments. They offer a complete basic and advanced Small Animal and Equine Acuscope training and certification program, animal therapy certification and training, and training in the Electro-Acuscope/Myoscope System, a therapy system calibrated specifically for animals. The Basic Small Animal and/or Equine Training and Certification programs are held at several locations in California, Texas, Oregon, and Neveda.

The academy and company were founded by Joyce Jackson, a former competitor in the Pro Rodeo Circuit. Since 1988, she has been one of the primary developers and instructors of the Equine Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Certification Program as well as an Animal Nutritional Consultant. In addition to founding her business, she began presenting lectures, seminars and teaching classes on various Animal Health and Rehabilitation subjects. As a big believer in a preventative maintenance program for animal athletes, the programs and trainings focus on properly preparing therapists to use the acuscope equipment in animal therapy.

Since Animal Therapy Systems & Academy sells Animal Acuscope, they stress their responsibility to creating competent, experience Animal Acuscope Therapists. They do not sell the instruments to anyone who does not commit to attend a basic training/certification program. In order to be a certified Animal Electro-Acuscope/Myoscope Therapist, one must complete and pass a certification exam in the academy's basic small animal and/or equine training and certification program. The training program for prospective Animal Acuscope Therapists has been offered since 1991.

Training and certification program consist of a variety of continued education classes, workshops, and basic training classes. The curriculum involves several formats of basic training as well as an extensive variety of Microcurrent-related continued education classes and practical application workshops. Programs are taught by Animal Acuscope Training and Certification who are avid animal owners and each have many years of experience and education in the animal health and wellness field.

Quick Facts

  • Founder Joyce Jackson believes in the "Whole Horse" approach, and feels that in order for animals to heal properly, they need to be healthy from the inside out and not just pieced back together section by section or injury by injury.

  • Jackson founded her company as Equine Specialty Services which, in 2002, evolved into Animal Therapy Systems. Equine Specialty Services has now become the rehabilitation division of Animal Therapy Systems.

  • The Electro-Acuscope is a medical instrument used in physical therapy that scans and treats many types of electrical stimulators called Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). The instrument uses electricity to reduce pain by stimulating the nervous system of the body without puncturing the skin in any way.

  • Professional athletic teams, sports medicine practices, hospitals, and by thousands of private doctors and therapists use the acuscope. In January 2002, Joyce acquired the exclusive distributorship for the Animal Calibrated Electro-Acuscope/Myoscope Therapy System.
