American Jewish University was founded in 2007 when the University of Judaism merged with Brandeis-Bardin Institute to form one of the largest Jewish institutions in the country. Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the American Jewish University is committed to developing leadership within and beyond the Jewish community, but students from all religious backgrounds are welcome.

All students at American Jewish University complete the Lee Program in Jewish and Western Civilizations, a core curriculum designed to provide the framework for education. Through the School of Arts and Sciences, students can pursue an undergraduate degree in nearly a dozen majors including bioethics, journalism, and public policy. At the graduate level, students can pursue a Master of Business Administration or a Master of Arts in Education. Students can enrich their education through study abroad programs in Israel through American Jewish University in Israel (AJUI) and Hebrew University. In addition, the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies is located on the AJU campus.

American Jewish University has campuses in Bel Air and Brandeis, with residence halls overlooking the San Fernando Valley. Students can participate in a variety of campus organizations, including academic groups, advocacy, student media, and a sports club.
