The American Institute of Massage is a massage therapy school located in Richmond, Virginia. The American Institute of Massage offers classes that will assist students in taking the state and national board exams to become a professionally licensed massage therapist.

At the American Institute of Massage, students enroll in the following courses: anatomy, physiology and pathology - 200 hours of the study of the structure of the body and how it functions. Also included in that 200 hours of course work is the study of kinesiology, which studies the movement of the body. In massage therapy and practice, students spend 400 hours learning the art of massage therapy. In the first part of the course, students study corporate chair massage, sports massage, reflexology, massage for the elderly, massage during pregnancy, infant massage, and hydrotherapy. Ethics for massage therapy are also taught in this course. In the second part of this class, students learn about neuromuscular massage, which is the study of how muscles affect the body. Also included in part three and four of this class are acupressure, teaching students the yin and yang energies, as well as integrating acupressure techniques. The last part of the class is trigger point massage and myofascial release. In this phase of the course, students learn about trigger points and deactivating them.

Massage therapists in the state of Virginia must be certified by the Virginia Board of Nursing, as well as nationally certified. Classes will prepare students for these certifications, but students are responsible for taking and passing board exams on their own.

Students who attend the American Institute of Massage pay a set tuition fee for the entire program. However, textbooks and required scrubs for classroom attendance are purchased separately. Financial aid is available through the school through payment programs, as well as student loans through SLM Financial, a Sallie Mae company. The American Institute of Massage will assist students in applying for appropriate financial aid.
