The American Institute of Interior Design is an Arizona-based interior design professional school. The American Institute of Interior Design was founded 20 years ago by Judy Thompson, an interior designer who had the vision of establishing a school that trains professional interior designers. Thompson has over three decades experience in the interior design industry and has been teaching for 25 years.

The American Institute of Interior Design is located in Fountain Hills Arizona. The school has over 5,000 square feet of space, which includes an actual design studio. The American Institute of Interior Design is located a short 45-minute drive from downtown Phoenix; or a 30-minute drive from the Mesa, Scottsdale or Temp areas. To qualify for entrance to the American Institute of Interior Design, one needs a passion for interior design, as well as a high school diploma, or equivalent.

Students at the American Institute of Interior Design enroll in the following curriculum: basic design, application of color theory and textiles (all 24 hours each); history of furniture (144 hours); technical and applied principles of fabrication (96 hours); business practices and principles (24 hours); modern architecture and contemporary furniture (48 hours); basic drafting and space planning (72 hours); color board and designer workshop (24 hours); sales and marketing (48 hours); lighting (48 hours); final project (72 hours). Students are also required to attend field trips, guest lectures and passing classes in business etiquette and proper dress. All of the instructors at the American Institute of Interior Design are also interior designers, bringing hands on experience to the classroom. This is a 27-week course that will assist graduates in obtaining entry-level jobs in the interior design field. Classes are held on campus and begin every few months. Classes are held 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Students who wish to study abroad may do so with the founder of the American Institute of Interior Design, who takes their students on trips to Europe each year. Students at the American Institute of Interior Design will have the opportunity to visit London, Paris, Lucerne, Venice, Florence and Rome. In these cities, students will discover the latest trends in fabrics, textiles, fashion and design; completely cutting out the lag time between the time trends hit Europe and when they hit Arizona.
