The American Institute of Alternative Medicine is a school located in Columbus, Ohio that trains professionals in the field of alternative medicine. Established in 91994 as Massage Away, Inc. School of Therapy, the American Institute of Alternative Medicine now has two programs including the massage therapy school. The two other programs include the Tu Nai (Chinese massage therapy) program and the master's level acupuncture program. The American Institute of Alternative Medicine has state of the art facilities that includes six lecture/labs, a spa training room, a student clinic with 12 treatment rooms, a retail area selling student books, supplies and therapeutic products, a library, kitchen, student and instructor lounges and administrative offices.

Students enrolling in the Master's Acupuncture Program at the American Institute of Alternative Medicine must take 2,170 hours of study. Students wishing to enroll in the American Institute of Alternative Medicine must have an Associate degree and 60 semester or 90 quarter credits towards a Bachelor's Degree. The full-tie program consists of 3 years of nine different 12-week courses. The curriculum fits the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) certification examination requirements, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) requirements along with the educational requirements of the Board of Career Colleges and Schools for the State of Ohio. Students who pass the exam may register to practice acupuncture in Ohio, as well as many other states.

Students enrolling in the Western Massage Therapy program at the American Institute of Alternative Medicine take a 750-hour curriculum over a nine-month period. One this program is completed; students receive a diploma, which allows them to apply to the Ohio State Medical Board for the licensed massage therapy examination. Students then may perform massage therapy in the state of Ohio. The 1,052-hour Chinese Massage Therapy Program is a massage therapy that focuses on the energetics of the body. Students wishing to enroll in this program must have already completed an Associate's Degree and 60 semester or 90-quarter hours for a Bachelor's degree. Graduates in this program are awarded a diploma and have the same requirements for licensure as in the Western Massage Program.
