The American Institute for Paralegal Studies is a school located in Ann Arbor, Michigan that focuses on training students interested in a career as paralegals. The American Institute for Paralegal Studies was established nearly 30 years ago and offers a 12-month, 25-credit program. The programs are offered online as well.

Through the American Institute for Paralegal Studies, students can study the 25-credit paralegal certificate program and prepare for national certification through courses offered at the school. Students wishing to apply to the American Institute for Paralegal Studies must have an Associate degree, Bachelor's degree or the equivalent credit hours or two years of paralegal work in a law firm.

During the 12-month program students study: American Jurisprudence; Torts and Personal Injury; Civil Litigation; Family Law; Criminal Law; Real Estate Transfer and Ownership; Business Law; Legal Research and Writing; Legal Writing; Lexis Workshop; Ethics and Professional Responsibility; Alternative Dispute Resolution; Employment Law; Estate and Trusts; and a wide variety of specialty and elective courses which include: Administrative Law; Judgment and Analysis Workshop; CLA Review Course; Advanced Litigation; Advanced Corporate Law; Intellectual Property; Copyright Law; Patent Law; Immigration Law and Trademark Law. The program allows students to take just one course a month, helping them master an area before moving to the next. Students in the accelerated program take two courses per month. Class sizes are limited to 15 students per class, allowing students to interact with faculty members and other students.

Certification preparatory courses are built into the curriculum and are a part of the tuition fees at American Institute for Paralegal Studies. However, they are not mandatory. Certification allows students to show employers and potential employers they have achieved a level of competency in the realm of paralegal work. Students at American Institute for Paralegal Studies prepare for the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE) and the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) exam. Students enrolling at the American Institute for Paralegal Studies can apply for different forms of financial aid, which include: loans, scholarships, payment plans and corporate reimbursement programs.
