Altamaha Technical College is a professional technical school located in Jesup, Georgia. Altamaha Technical College serves the Appling-Wayne areas and there are off-campus sites that serve the Jesup, Baxley, and Hazlehurst markets. The vision for the school was laid out in 1985 and by 1990, the first class enrolled at what was then Altamaha Technical Institute. In 2000, the name was changed to Altamaha Technical College to better reflect the mission of the twenty-first century.
Students have a variety of programs from which to choose at Altamaha Technical College. The associate and Applied Science degree programs include: administrative office technology; CIS-microcomputer specialist; CIS networking specialist; criminal justice technology; early childhood care/education; machine tool technology; marketing management; process manufacturing technology; and technical studies. The diploma programs include: accounting; air conditioning technology; automotive fundamentals; automotive technology; business office technology; CIS microcomputer specialist; CIS networking specialist; cosmetology; criminal justice technology; diesel equipment technology; early childhood care/education; electrical construction and maintenance; electrical control systems; electronics fundamentals; electronics technology; industrial electrical technology; industrial mechanical systems; machine tool technology; marketing management; practical nursing; public works/civil technology; and welding and joining technology.
Students may also earn a technical certificate of credit in the following areas: accounting; air conditioning technology; automotive technology; CCSS; computer information systems; commercial truck driving; cosmetology; criminal justice technology; culinary arts; early childhood care/education; electrical construction and maintenance; electronics and telecommunications; emergency medical technician; heavy diesel technology; health and medical; industrial systems technology; instrumentation technology; machine tool technology; marketing management; pulp and paper; and welding.
Prospective students wishing to enroll at Altamaha Technical College must have a high school diploma or GED for all of the associate degree programs and most of the certificate and diploma programs; must complete an Asset or Compass exam, or have SAT exam scores from the past five years; and after receiving a letter of acceptance, meet with an adviser for enrollment. There are further requirements for students in the nursing, heavy diesel equipment technology and industrial electrical technology programs. High school students may also be jointly enrolled to receive credit prior to high school graduation.
