Allen University is a Christian liberal arts institution founded in 1870 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Allen is located in Columbia, South Carolina, near the central business district. Four campus facilities are listed with the Historic Federal Registry.

Approximately 600 students from the United States and four foreign countries attend Allen University, and at least 60 percent of the 37 faculty members hold terminal degrees. Allen awards bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degrees in eight academic majors including biology, business administration, chemistry, English, mathematics, music, religion and social science.

Allen University provides students, faculty and staff with weekly speakers, activities and presentations through the Cultural Academic Religious Series. The series is meant to inspire students' intellectual, cultural, social and spiritual development to promote academic excellence.
