Alfred State College is a public, coeducational, nonsectarian college that provides a hands-on, career-focused education. Founded in 1908, ASC joined the State University of New York (SUNY) system in 1948 and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Located between the Allegheny Mountains and the Finger Lakes Region in New York, Alfred State College has a campus in Alfred and another in nearby Wellsville.

The Alfred campus includes the the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as the School of Management and Engineering Technology; the Wellsville campus includes the School of Applied Technology. Alfred State University offers more than 70 majors in the fields of agriculture, the arts, science, business, health, and engineering technologies. Students can pursue a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business Administration, or a Bachelor of Technology, along with a wide range of associate's degree and certificate programs.

Alfred State College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, with more than 18 teams competing. Students can also participate in more than 50 clubs on campus, including intramural sports, outdoor recreation, drama, and community service.
