Alabama State University is a comprehensive regional university that focuses on offering learning and practical experiences that are designed to develop students' intellectual abilities, as well as social, moral, cultural, and ethical values.

Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-as well as business, teaching, music, occupational therapy, health education, and social work accrediting organizations-the university is dedicated to continually improving and expanding. A new College of Education building is planned, along with the implementation of a Distance Learning Program to provide access to educational opportunities for those who cannot participate in a traditional campus experience.

With an eclectic mix of Georgian-style red-brick classroom buildings and architecturally contemporary structures, Alabama State University is one of the most aesthetically beautiful campuses among Alabama colleges.
