At the core of our philosophy is the desire to put students in control of their educations and their lives, and to help them realize that both are theirs to create. From Lower School through graduation, in ways small and large, students are asked to confront tough challenges in an environment safe enough to fail at times—and safe enough to succeed. Immediate success is always rewarding, but oftentimes students experience the most growth from confronting an academic or life problem and persisting until that problem is resolved. We never agree that students have to remain adversely affected by tough situations; instead, we help them use the skills they have learned to get back on track. With that approach, students become more and more causative over their educations and lives.
We warmly welcome you to come and join us on our lovely 800-acre Oregon campus for a tour or school event.

The Delphi Program
The Delphi Program is a unique, integrated approach to learning. Applied to K-12 schools and offered by Delphi Schools, Inc., the eight basic principles of the program lay out a fundamental philosophy. Very few things could be more important to a parent or a student than understanding a school's philosophy.
The Delphi Program has been designed from the ground up to help students of any age "take on life."
Here's how we do it.
1. Empower Them as Students
2. Get Personal
3. Put Ethics and Integrity at the Center
4. Fully Achieve the Basics
5. Emphasize Literacy
6. Keep It Real
7. Involve Parents
8. Demand Competence and Accountability, Not Time Spent

Academic Program
"We cannot say enough great things about Delphi's Summer academic program. They use many different study tools so the students really understand what they are learning. Attending the summer program in Oregon literally changed our daughter's life." - Parent
Program Offerings
Delphi's unique approach to academics provides an individually tailored program for each student as well as one-on-one assistance. Individual progress is not tied to the speed of others in the class. Students who have mastered the basics are free to advance quickly into new areas. Students can brush up in weak areas (at any level), tackle advanced subjects, or simply explore new interests. Over 250 courses and classes are offered each summer.
Delphi is one of the only academic summer camps to give students instruction in and personal reference books about the subject of how to study. This vital instruction - missing in many school systems today - can greatly increase any student's enthusiasm for learning. As they learn these study methods, students find they are able to fully understand and apply the data they are studying in school. The result is that many students realize they can succeed in today's competitive environment and their enthusiasm for learning soars.
Individual Attention
Personal Academic Programs: Students are not all the same and don't all arrive at Delphi on the same footing. Each summer student is given diagnostic testing from which a program based on interests, strengths and weaknesses is designed. A high level of personal attention is not just an abstract idea at Delphi. It is a central, practical theme.
A Unique Approach to Learning: How students are taught is what makes Delphi truly unique. Students work independently in a highly disciplined classroom while their teachers supervise and advise - guiding, providing resources when asked and giving a push when needed. Key to making this work is a step-by-step study guide called a checksheet designed to bring a student into useful understanding of a specific subject.
Learning to Study
Our basic assumptions are that within every individual is an innate desire to learn and know more, that the process of learning is inherently a pleasurable experience and that the only reason a student feels otherwise is because there is something not understood. That something can be a word, it can be a concept or action, or it can just be, "How does this apply to me?" American writer and educator L. Ron Hubbard recognized these pitfalls and identified some basic barriers to understanding. To help overcome these barriers and ensure a student could truly put his or her education to use, Mr. Hubbard developed what he called a technology of study.
Because Study Technology provides simple but powerful tools by which any subject can be fully understood, every student who comes to Delphi begins by getting a firm grounding in it. The world of knowledge becomes fully accessible and a young person with abilities and interest discovers his unlimited potential for success. In one summer at Delphi, a young person can learn how to study any subject-a skill that will last a lifetime.

Upper School
In addition to challenging academic studies in literature, mathematics, writing, science, history and government, Upper School students gain practical understanding and experience in subjects of leadership, integrity and logic, as well as management and organizational skills.
Students become a vital element in the functioning of the school, taking on tasks of increased responsibility, requiring higher and higher levels of competence.
Our students learn to function in a professional manner, experience the value of living responsibly and gain the academic knowledge and practical skills needed to confidently and competently take the next step in life. A Delphi graduate walks forward into higher education and life with a great deal of certainty and ability.

Middle School
The Middle School years form the critical transition period from students competent in the basics of reading, writing and mathematics to students launched into more serious academic study. For Middle School students, our concentration is on maintaining and raising the standards of those basic tools learned earlier, becoming focused and independent as students and getting an increased conceptual understanding of how academic subjects integrate and relate to real life. Additionally, specific courses and projects are designed to raise the students' willingness and ability to draw conclusions and make judgments about the information they're learning.
Students generally enter Middle School around the age of eleven and a half and graduate to Upper School by fourteen years of age.

Elementary School
During their Elementary School years, students develop educational skills and habits that will stay with them for life. It is also during this early period that their educational foundation in reading, writing and mathematics is made firm.
Delphi's Elementary School curriculum focuses on the reading, writing and mathematics basics, while immersing students in the arts, physical and social sciences, foreign language and plenty of practical application to help students relate what they're learning to the real world.

English As a Second Language
The Delphian School offers a strong English-as-a-Second-Language program year-round to students from the ages of eight through eighteen.
Our goal is to help ESL students become competitive with American students in their pursuit of an American high school and college or university education. We do this by providing a well-rounded education in basic English reading, writing, culture and conversation. Students finishing The Delphian School ESL Program would then be placed in the same class as native English-speaking students. The ESL students' English at this point would not be perfect, but the students would be competitive in that class with native English speakers.
Intermediate level ESL students who qualify can enroll at any time during the regular school year program or during the summer program (based on school availability). Students below intermediate level must first enroll in the school's Summer Program, as beginning ESL is not offered during the regular school year.
Please contact our Admissions Office for detailed information on qualifications for Intermediate ESL. Most beginning ESL students who attend the six-week summer program can qualify for Intermediate ESL by the beginning of the fall term.
